I have got to be honest I was really looking forward to this match. Our Sensas Cardiff Nomads team pitting ourselves against 15 of the best teams in the country. With the likes of Dorking, Starlets, Thatchers etc in the line up it is a team event that I really wanted to fish and the stage where I wanted to compete.
The league is very well professionally run by Paul Dicks and Darren Cox with the rules and bait limits clear from the start. It is also run to CIPs rules with a 13m pole limit and bait limitations as per international events.
Our team for the day was Richy Candy, Clive Roberts, Shaun Wilson, Andy Neal and myself. I made the team draw and pulled out 4 which put Richy and Shaun over on nearby Packington Somers and myself of C92 on the main lake at Barston.
I had 3 rigs set up for today, a bloodworm rig set at dead depth, an identical rig but with laying on a foot and then a heavier rig for nailing it down if the tow got up once the expected winds arrived. All of these rigs we for 13m as the depth is consistent from 5 - 13m with no or very little slope.
At the 10min balling in whistle I kicked off with 9 balls of Sensas Lake and Bremes mixed with light leam and Joker. The first port of call was the dead depth Bloodworm rig which resulted in about 15 small Roach. As the day progressed I continued to top up with Joker and casters and the conditions worsened I caught an F1 and decent size skimmer to finish with 6lb. Conditions were terrible with a head on wind driving rain and freezing temperatures.
Team wise we did quite well and managed a satisfying 7th from 16 teams.
The mighty Dorking won the day with a very impressive performance.
Even though the conditions had spoilt a good match, I enjoyed it and look forward to the next round on Gold Valley in January.
