It was a challenging day however, not for the fishing I may add but logistically! Some bright spark at the highways agency decided to shut the M50 for them to carry out some roadworks for the entire weekend. I didnt find out about it until late the Saturday night, so had to plan my own detour as the one that the highways had given would take me through Gloucester. So off I set anyway and the detour I had worked out to go straight up the A449 right to Woodlands was working ok until I got stuck behind a tractor from Malvern to Worcester.
I got to the fishery with about 15mins to spare luckily so time for a quick sausage and egg sandwich and a coffee before the draw.
I pulled out 38 on back deans which was ok, there was a good turnout for the match so both Deans lakes where in and sensibly pegged to give everyone as much room as possible.
The plan was a 2+2 pole line (that could be used up to 16m) on pellet, waggler shallow and a edge line.
I kicked off with feeding a pot full of fishery 4mm pellets on the 2+2 line then had a few casts on the waggler to see if there was any fish cruising about. I also had a strong wind blowing into my face which made conditions pretty cold in fairness and nothing like the sun and warmth in the run up!
The waggler didnt come up with any fish, so was time to concentrate on the pole line. I did have a few other goes thorughout the match but no bites.
The short pole line resulted in a Carp about 8lb on my first drop in, so that was a good start. The line didnt really get going though and I ended up pushing it out a bit to get some more bites. I wasnt catching a lot of fish, but the ones I did hook where all of a good stamp. There was a funny hour where all I could get was skimmers, but the Carp where a bit sparadic.
The edge lines that I'd primed up didn't throw up any fish either, but it was a bitterly cold day as well. I weighed in 10lb of Skimmers and 49lb of Carp which I was quite surprised about as thought I only had 36lb of Carp so my weight guesstimate was a bit out today!
It wasnt any good really though as I think it was about 3rd on the lake with that, but as ever did give me a few things to think about for the next visit.
The results were:
1 J May JNR Peg 1 D54 86-08 lbs
2 J Stone Woodlands D58 74-00 lbs
3 R Camden Woodlands D24 72-08 lbs
4 M Amphlett Mebbourn D35 69-12 lbs
