It was a glorious day, and a far contrast from my previous matches on here. It was that nice that no coats, bodywarmers etc were required and for the first time this year we were sat out fishing in just hoodys.
Anyway after tucking into the traditional bacon sandwich I found my luck was with me today as it was a rover match and I drew number 1, meaning I had first pick of the pegs. I decided on 14 which was one off the corner and one that John Harvey had drawn in the silvers match so it must have been a flyer if Harvey drew it!
I set up a waggler, bomb rod and 3 pole lines. First pole line was at 2+2, second at 13m and the third was down the edge to the corner.
In the first two hours I had about 22lb, thanks to 3 big fish on the waggler but it wasn't fast and furious. These fish fell to standard waggler tactics but fished at mid depth with a slow sinking banded pellet on the hook.
After a while plugging away at that I went and had a look on the pole line and after a bit of careful feeding found a few fish on that line, all be it a bit smaller than the stamp I'd caught on the waggler.
I had also been priming up a edge line for the last hour with 4mm fishery pellets and corn and with an hour to go I went down there to find a fair few fish lined up.
The last hour was some great fishing not like summer bagging but plenty of bites to work to and I think I put another 8 fish in the net in this time.
It was a lovely match in the spring sunshine and I weighed in 45lb 8oz to win the match.
The rest of the lake had fished a bit harder though and second only weighed 24lb and third 22lb.
