On the nicest day of the year I headed back up to Woodlands for the open which this time was on Arles Lake.
This is one of the favourite lakes on the complex as its the most mature with lots of features to fish too and a mixed sticking of silvers and big carp.
I was on peg 19 which was over in the corner by the roadside and I faniced it for a few fish.
It was a misty start to the day but the forecast was for it to clear up to bright blue skys...which it did.
The fishing started off a bit slow as it was a cold morning and the site was having some road improvement work done which probably didnt help on the day.
I had planned a three line attack, a waggler at mid depth, pole short and a line for down the edge for the last hour.
As the match progressed it wasn't actually until the last hour until the fish switched on, having primed up a line 11m to my left with corn and the fishery pellets. When I went down there it was instant and they were literally waiting to be caught.
It was as if however there where a few too many there and frustratingly lost around 5 fish that were foul hooked.
I ended up in 3rd place but literally needed another 30mins of the match and I was confident I could have taken top spot again.
In hindsight I should have tried the edge line earlier in the day, but thats fishing and another nice day at Woodlands none the less.
The results were:
Arles Pool.
1 P Shergold Bilston Angling A15 42-02 lbs
2 J May JNR Bilston Angling A17 32-05 lbs
3 I Swanson Browning A19 30-08 lbs
4 R Barnfield Woodlands A22 28-08 lbs...
