I had decided to go to Tunnel Barn today, so off I set at stupid o'clock as it is a good 2 hour journey for me. Worth it though as the fishing is superb up there.
The day didn't get off to the best of starts though and maybe I should have turned around and gone back to bed when I spotted one singular magpie staring at me from the side of the road as I left.
After the customary bacon roll stop I got to the M5 to be greeted by lots of flashing matrix signs saying M42 long delays. The traffic news confirmed that the south bound M42 was closed due to an accident, with the north bound side down to two lanes due to another accident at the same spot.
I was early however so had a bit of time to spare as the draw wasn't until 9.15am, as time was going on and the miles to go going down very slowly I had to put a call in to Les at tunnel to say I was on my way but going to be late.
They are great like that in fairness and he'd put me on the sheet so I had a peg. After about an hours que through the M5 roadworks and through the crash on the M42 I got to Tunnel more or less bang on 9.15!
I paid my £12 entrance fee and being last there went to the back of the line to draw. I normally draw with my left hand but for some reason the right hand went in today and out came.....Club Pool peg 13!
I'm not that a superstitious person, but the odds were seriously stacking up against me today!!
Les had said to fish to the water pipe and platform to my left, as that is where they live so I got to my peg and was pretty happy to be honest despite the omens for the day not being good! I had a nice margin swim to my right plus the water pipe and platform to go to at 13m.
I started on top 2 plus 2 straight in front on maggot and pellet over pellets but it was slow so with no carp or F1s looking interested on this line. So I went down the margin line whilst pinging a few 4mm feed pellets over to the pipe. I had a few small carp and also a few tangles as kept getting caught on underwater brambles etc! So this wasn't good!!
Right having had enough of that swim it was time to go long on the swim to the pipe and platform that had been recommended to me. Which I did and the results were instant! First two drops I had two Carp of a much bigger stamp and the signs were all of a sudden looking a lot better!
Sadly my short run of luck didn't last, I fished the match out on this line as was getting fish there but not in any numbers to mount a challenge for the match.
I ended up with just under 40lb for no where in the match! It was won with 120lb (I think as didn't walk the lake with the scales). Not the best of days to be honest, but still I was outside caught a few fish and it was a lot better than being in work!
Dam that magpie!!
