I apologise to regular readers for not updating my blog!
Since the last update, it has been a busy few months, totally occupied by team fishing to be honest.
The Commercial house league was in full swing and the end of September saw us travel to the upper Bristol Avon around Chippenham.
We didn't really know what to expect as was a new venue for us but having spoken to a chap at the local Angling Club there we knew we were in for some decent Roach Fishing.
I was surprised when we got there to see how narrow and slow moving the river was compared to the lower reaches where we are more use to fishing. It was real Mr Crabtree style as we trundled through the overgrown path ways looking for pegs.
My swim looked really inviting with small patch of lillies, overhanging trees and a few weed beds dotted about so I set up and stick float, my Champions Choice 10ft Bomb rod and a Pole line.
I started on the Pole, fishing Caster over small nuggets of groundbait and hemp had a few small roach pretty quickly but only small stamp.
I changed over to hemp on the hook and the result was remarkable, the stamp of roach instantly improved. I kept the bites coming all day only dieing off in the last hour when I switched over to the stick float and managed to snare a few more. Halfway through the match the bites slowed up so I re introduced a small ball of groundbait and they came straight back on it.
It was pretty simple fishing, just running a light 4x12 float through and loose feeding hemp and caster of the top, on a size 20 hook to 0.10 bottom and a soft 5 elastic. I had a lovely days fishing and really enjoyed the day ending up second in the section with 13lb of all Roach.
